What is Secondhand Snoots Rescue?

Secondhand Snoots Rescue is a registered non-profit, 501c(3) animal rescue organization founded in May 2010 by a couple of animal loving friends. Their goal was simply to create an organization that would be able to focus efforts on animals with special needs.

Where is Secondhand Snoots Rescue located?

Secondhand Snoots Rescue is a rescue without walls. We have no single physical location for our animals, rather we have a network of foster home in which our animals are rehabilitated. We hold adoption events and fundraisers in the Chicagoland and Milwaukee areas.

Are you “no-kill”?

Yes. Secondhand Snoots Rescue is a no-kill animal rescue organization. The animals in our care stay with us until they find the perfect forever home for them. Animals here are never euthanized for space, however, when an animal has a very poor quality of life due to illness, injury, or severely aggressive behavior.

What kind of animals does Secondhand Snoots Rescue have for adoption?

Secondhand Snoots Rescue works very hard to place all of the animals in our care into loving forever homes. We do focus in animals with special needs, injuries and illnesses.

I saw a pet that I would like to meet. Now what?

Please fill out our online adoption application. This must be done before meeting any of our animals, as they are located in private foster homes. Once the application is approved, we will call or email you to set up an appointment to meet the pet of your choice. Having problems with our application? Please email info@secondhandsnoots.org

What is the adoption fee?

In appreciation we proudly offer a 25% discount on our regular adoption rates to all active and retired Law Enforcement Officers, Fire Fighters, and Military. To receive the discounted adoption rate the adopter must present their employer issued identification card or other legal proof of employment or service.

Kittens 6 months old and younger are recommended to be adopted in pairs or into a home with another young, playful cat or kitten

All of our animals that are available for adoption have been micro-chipped, received all of their age-appropriate vaccinations, are spayed/neutered (if over 6-months old and medically appropriate), dewormed, heartworm / FIV / FeLV - tested, and treated for any medical conditions or injuries that they present with.

I need to give up my pet, will you take it?

We generally only accept pets from “open door” animal control facilities. If foster home space allows we do consider owner surrenders, however dogs in animal control are our priority.

I would like to foster a Secondhand Snoots Rescue. What do I need to do?

Please go to our foster page and complete our online foster application to get started. We will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. You are also welcome to speak to any of our current or past foster homes to get their perspective on fostering.

What if I adopt a pet, and it doesn’t work out?

Your adoption contract requires that you contact Secondhand Snoots if you can no longer keep the pet you adopted.

I would like to make a donation. What does the rescue need most?

There is a wish list in our donations section. Monetary donations are always the greatest need as they allow us to pay down existing veterinary bills and save for upcoming animals. Any donation is greatly appreciated, and we are a 501c(3) organization, so your donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law.
